Federal Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Muhammad Asif has ordered to include tehsil Jaranwala and Samundari in urban category on the respective lawmakers’ complaints about prolonged loadshedding.

He issued the order during a meeting with MNAs Talal Ch and Shahbaz Gujjar. The parliamentarians told the federal minister that Samundari and Jaranwal was put in the rural category and the consumers of both the tehsils were demanding inclusion in the urban category so that duration of loadshedding could be reduced.

On their demand, the minister ordered the inclusion of Jaranwala and Samundari in the urban category. The minister said that the government was working on war footings to bridge the gap between demand and supply and work has been initiated on many power generation projects. He said that due to government initiatives, the duration of loadshedding during the current year was comparatively less than the previous year’s.

On the other side, Fesco Chief Executive Officer Khurshid Alam said that it had finalised the plans for the upgradation of secondary transmission lines and grid stations with allocation of Rs3,300 million for this purpose. The construction of 7 grid stations of 132-KV, upgradation of 6 grid station of 66-KV and construction of 40 transmission lines are included in these projects, he said during his visit to Nishatabad Grid Station and GSO Directorate.

He said that after the completion of projects, Fesco would be able to distribute its load quota according to the international standard. Fesco Board of Directors has already approved these projects and sent to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council for final approval.

He said that the final plan had been made for the construction of four grid stations of 132-KV capacity due to the industrial importance of the city.

He added that these grid stations would be constructed each near GTS Flyover, at Steam Power Station, Aminpur and at Jaranwala Grid Station.

He said that on the special directives of Federal Secretary for Water and Power Nargis Sethi, 118 Sub Division under the jurisdiction of Fesco had been updated and operation staff is performing excellent duty for redressing complaints. Meanwhile, different Fesco teams were regularly visiting the bazaars, commercial centres, shops, markets and patrol pumps to raise awareness in public for energy conservation. The CEO also visited the Madina Town and Gutwala Sub Division and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements at customer services centres.

Moreover, the people in Sialkot district have been experiencing 16 to 18 hour-long loadshedding daily in sizzling hot weather.

Sialkot, the native district of Khawaja Muhammad Asif who is federal minister for water and power, was in the grip the “worst” power loadshedding as Gepco had stepped up unscheduled loadshedding, they said. The power outages remained continued for several hours after every 25 minutes with very low voltages due to which the people suffered a great ordeal.
