Three die in hit-and-run accidents in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD  -  Three people were killed in hit-and-run accidents that occurred in different areas of Faisalabad on Friday.

In the first accident, according to the police, a speeding tractor trolley hit a motorcycle rickshaw on Satiana Road in Saddar police area. As a result, Yousaf of Chak No 30-RB died on the spot while Imran of Allama Iqbal Colony was badly injured. However the driver left the vehicle and fled from the scene.

In the second incident, Imran, Izat Baig and Umair were travelling on a motorcycle near 583-GB, Jarranwala Road, when they were hit by a truck. Resultantly, Umair and Izat Baig were killed on the spot while Imran suffered injuries. The truck driver drove away after hitting the bike.

200 litres of liquor seized

The police on Friday claimed to have arrested a drug trafficker and recovered 200 litres of liquor. 

Police Spokesman Muneeb Ahsan said policemen conducted raids and succeeded in arresting Imran red handed. The police also recovered 200 litres of liquor from his possession and registered a case.

Dacoit gang busted

Police arrested three members of a dacoit gang and recovered cash, gold ornaments and cell phone from their possession.

Police said here on Friday that Millat town police conducted raid at the hideout of the criminals in street No. 3, Nishatabad and arrested Ali Raza, Umar Farooq of 68-JB and Ghulam Akbar of Jhang and recovered cash, cell phones, gold ornaments and motorbike. The outlaws were involved in a number of dacoity and street robbery cases.

Irrigation official held over corruption

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has arrested a Ziladar of the Irrigation Department Jhang on charge of taking illegal gratification. 

A spokesman for the ACE said on Friday that a citizen Muhammad Owais of Chak No 379-JB Toba Tek Singh filed a complaint before the ACE, contending that Liaqat Ali, Ziladar Irrigation Department Jhang, had received Rs150,000 as bribe for a legal work and now he was also demanding Rs50,000 more as gratification.

ACE Circle Officer Akhtar Saeed, along with his team, conducted a surprise raid and nabbed Ziladar Liaqat Ali red handed while receiving bribe. 

The officer also recovered marked currency notes worth Rs50,000 from the possession of the accused and sent him behind the bars.
