Divine judgement

Maulana Fazalur Rehman recently held forth that 95% of the deposed judges have been 'reinstated' and only 5 percent have not joined even, though, they could also be 'reinstated' if they took a fresh oath. The venerable Maulana perhaps does not understand the difference between 'reappointment' and reinstatement. The 95 percent judges that he is referring to have been 're-appointed', and not reinstated to their positions of Nov 2, 2007. If the 5% judges left out, including the deposed CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry, were to agree on taking a fresh oath now, they would be effectively accepting their removal by Gen Musharraf as valid. In fact they had struck down the second PCO on Nov 3, 2007 which was later resurrected by Musharraf's handpicked judiciary led by Mr. Abdul Hameed Dogar and his brother judges. The incorrect statement of Maulana Sahib needs to be rectified otherwise it would amount to admixing the Haq with Batil, which is expressly prohibited in the Holy Quran. Maulana should recant the above statement at the earliest as Allah has appointed angels to record every falsehood of earthly beings that shall be reproduced on the Day of Judgement. -DR MUHAMMAD YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, via e-mail, February 25.
