ISLAMABAD (APP) - The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that the new petroleum exploration policy, which gives sense of ownership to the population from where gas discoveries would be made in future, was likely to be announced within two weeks. While replying to a question from Mir Ahmadan Khan Bugti, MNA during Question Hour, Minister for Privatization Syed Naveed Qamar told the House that it was unfortunate that in Dera Bugti where natural gas was discovered in 1954, only 5 per cent local population has been provided the gas facility. He said that the present government was making serious efforts to end the sense of deprivation among the people of the areas where natural gas has been discovered. To a supplementary question he said that the government would give priority to provision of natural gas connections to far flung areas. Naveed Qamar said that only two exploration production companies were currently working in Dera Bugti area. Replying to another question about electricity generation projects from coal functioning in the country, he said that presently coal based power plants have capacity 3X50 MW generating electricity in Khanote in Dadu,Sindh. He said that the Sindh government has set up an organization Thar Coal and Energy Board to act as on stop body to exploit Thar coal for power generation. He said that a power plant would be constructed for generation of electricity from the coal reserves of Sondha-Jherrik,Thatta in Sindh. Pre- feasibility study is being carried out for the project.
