ISLAMABAD (PPI/APP) - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that an investment of Rs. 750 million had been made in the LPG supply infrastructure during 2007-09 whereas total investment in the sector till date, is estimated at about Rs 12 billion. "This investment reflects the confidence of investors in the government policies regarding LPG sector", this he said in a message on the occasion of 3rd annual LPG conference and exhibition organized by the LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP) and Energy Update in Islamabad to be held on March 11. This event is supported by World LP Gas Association, Ministry of Petroleum, OGRA, Enercon & industry will deliver there speeches. Prime Minister said that the event would provide an excellent opportunity for industry stakeholders, policymakers and the general public to interact with each other. He noted that while LPG accounts for 0.7 percent of the national energy mix, it is a fuel of convenience for people living in remote areas having no access to piped natural gas. Gilani said that the government of Pakistan was already seized of the important of broadening and indigenising our energy mix. The government has also directed the relevant public sector companies to speed up availability of additional local LPG production through a transparent, competitive bidding process which would also create both investment and employment opportunities, he added. The government remains committed to implement industry-friendly policies through fair transparent policymaking that would Insha-Allah yield benefits and rewards for the Pakistani consumer, he noted. Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that LPG business has experienced an exponential growth in the recent years but much more was needed to be done to serve those areas of the country where the piped natural gas supply has not yet reached. In his message on the occasion of 3rd annual LPG conference and exhibition organized by the LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP) and Energy Update in Islamabad on Wednesday, the President hoped that the conference will bring into focus the issue related to its pricing, regulation and safety standards, besides discussing the growth potential of LPG industry. I also hope that the conference will serve as a forum for sharing the ideas, brain storming and analyzing issues associated with LPG industry and make suggestion for the growth of LPG sector in Pakistan for easy availability of this product at an affordable price to the consumers, he said.
