ISLAMABAD-PML-Q withdrawing from its demand of Senate chairmanship, has sought the top slot in Punjab for striking a power-sharing agreement with Pakistan People's Party in the province, TheNation has learnt reliably. Chaudhry brothers who called on President Zardari in the wee hours Thursday asked for the chief minister's slot in the meeting that was also attended by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and Advisor to PM on Interior Rehman Malik. According to sources of the PML-Q, Chaudhry brothers told PPP top command in the meeting that they had done their homework for making coalition government in Punjab and advised the PPP leaders to convene provincial assembly's session at the earliest to elect new Leader of the House. The sources said that the Governor Punjab might convene provincial assembly session on March 16 for the election of the new Leader of the House. "Governor Punjab, Salman Taseer and Chaudhry brothers were confident and assured President Asif Ali Zardari that the coalition of PPP and PML-Q would easily succeed in electing its Leader of House," the sources said. They further said that calling Punjab Assembly's session on March 16 to elect new Leader of the House would badly affect PML-N's participation in the lawyers scheduled long march and would also bring Governor Rule in the province to an early end as the PPP government is under tremendous pressure even from its allies. Shujaat Wednesday said that his party was engaged in negotiations with both PPP and PML-N further saying, "Till today, we have not cut any power-sharing deal with PPP." He said that the doors always remained open in politics. "No deal has been struck between the PPP and PML-Q and all such news is a part of disinformation," he added. Ch Shujaat and Ch Pervaiz Elahi also held an exclusive meeting with Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani after the dinner hosted by the latter in honour of the newly elected senators. The sources within PML-Q told this correspondent that Chaudhrys of Gujrat were skeptical about PPP co-chairperson's future designs as they were wary of taking any risk by giving Punjab's CM slot to a PPP man. Chaudhrys can not afford to bring some other Q-League MPA for the position of CM as they do not want the emergence of another "Hamid Nasir Chattha" in future, said the sources. Meanwhile, in a meeting of PML-Q senators, party lawmakers from the Upper House urged the party's top command not to strike power-sharing agreement with PPP and asked the Chaudhrys to go into alliance with PML-N. PML-Q Secretary-General Mushahid Hussain Sayed talking to media persons after the meeting of Q-League Senators on Wednesday said that it was the responsibility of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to play his role to end existing crisis. "When PM admits that the imposition of Governor Rule in Punjab is not right then why he does not come forward to diffuse the tension in the country", he added. Mushahid said that PML-Q had no intention to field Shujaat as its candidate for the slot of Chairman Senate.
