District Nazim Sahiwal has refused to impose Section 144 in the district, and SSP Civil Lines Gujranwala Athar Waheed refused to follow instructions to arrest political activists, reported a private TV channel on Wednesday. According to sources, District Nazim Sahiwal Hassan Nawaz Khan has refused to impose Section 144 in the district. On the other hand, SSP Civil Lines Gujranwala Athar Waheed also defied orders to arrest political activists. It is reported that he was suspended for defying orders. Talking to media, suspended SSP Muhammad Athar Waheed said that police should always discharge its duties in line with the law. 'I had taken oath to accept the orders which are in accordance with the law', he said, adding, that illegal orders could not be accepted. He said that people could enjoy their fundamental rights under the given law. 'I did all what I was taught at the National Police Academy', he commented. Meanwhile, DCO Gujranwala Tariq Khokhar has denied news item of suspending the SSP, rather, he said that the SSP become unconscious due to suffocation and he was sent on leave for 10 days.
