Federal Amateurs Golf Championship tees off today

ISLAMABAD Around 150 golfers will be featuring in the 28th Federal Amateurs Golf Championship which tee off from today here at Islamabad Golf Club. Secretary Islamabad Golf Association (IGA) Zahid Arbab told reporters in a press conference at Golf Club that the competitions would be held in four categories. Golfers from all over the country will vie in the amateurs, senior amateurs, ladies and juniors competitions, he said. He revealed that 84 amateur, 39 senior amateur and 19 ladies and junior players have confirmed their entries so far. However, the number of the competitors might be increased. This is an annual fixture of IGC and has been organised regularly since 1983. All arrangements have been given final touches, he asserted. Zahid Arbab further said that Khurram Shah had claimed the mens title last year while Agnis Dekok would defend her ladies title. Despite heavy rains in the capital city during the last couple of week, the organisers maintained the nice turf for the national players to show the skills of the game, he viewed. Responding to a question, he said amateur would play over 54 holes game, as 18 holes will be played each day while senior will compete over 36 holes. The contest among ladies and juniors will be organised over 18 holes. The chief guest of the closing ceremony is yet to be decided, he added. Pakistan State Oil (PSO) representative Naveed Ahmed Hashmi was also present on this occasion.
