ISLAMABAD - Taking action on non-functional emergency communication system (ECS) at Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) and Faisalabad-Pindi Bhattian Motorway (M-3), the Communication Ministry made the system operative at M-3 but the situation at M-1 was still same. We have managed to functional emergency communication system at M-3 and system on M-1 would be made operative soon, Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir told The Nation. Sensing the immediate need of this system, Minister said, we made it functional on priority basis and matter regarding M-1 was under consideration. The communication system was not functional for last three years. , as only poles were installed on both M-1 (155kilometer) and M-3 (52kilometer) for emergency communication system. Sources said that the problem was in the notice of authorities concerned but due to some technical and financial reasons required steps were not taken. These roadside emergency communication systems were installed with an aim to provide facility to the travellers as in case of any untoward situation they could call for emergency help. Earlier when this newspaper had drawn attention of the Minister a couple of week before, he assured to take action on priority basis.
