LAHORE The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed the bail petition earlier moved by former chairman, National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), Ayaz Khan Niazi, who is the principal accused in the companys land scam allegedly involving misappropriation of billions of rupees. The accused had pleaded for the bail inter alia on the grounds that he did not have any role in the alleged scam of the NICL land purchase but Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had roped him in the case with malafide intentions. The official of the FIA informed the court that the accused was involved in the fraud covering as many as 803 kanals of NICL land and the allegations have been proved against him during the investigations. The FIA also accused Niazi of paying huge amounts to the contractors in connivance with his colleagues in violation of the rules and regulations. It alleged that Niazi and others paid huge money to contractors after getting claims through fake surveyors. Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik after hearing both sides turned down his bail petition. Meanwhile, Justice Malik allowed bail to another accused of the scam Ayub Siddique Butt and directed him to submit bail bonds in the sum of Rs one million.
