KARACHI - Karachi Transport Ittehad President Syed Irshad Hussain Shah Bukhari and General Secretary Syed Mehmood Afridi on Monday appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to direct the Sindh government for paying compensation of those vehicles torched in Sohrab Goth as a result of recent Abbas Town blast and 2009 Bolton Market incident.
In a statement, the KTI leaders said that the compensation of the destroyed properties of Bolton Market incident was paid to the affectees, but ironically no compensation of buses torched in police custody has so far been paid, which is matter of great concern.
They questioned, "Are transporters not Pakistanis?" They also asked Sindh governor to issue orders for incorporation of compensation of those vehicles in the list of Abbas Town blast compensation committee.
They said that provision of compensation would help transporters to earn livelihood for their children.
The KTI leaders further said that the transporters have not been treated well during the last five years of the present government.
"The coming time will show that how the provincial transport department has been brought to the brink of disaster," they said.
