NAROWAL - Patients of the area are facing numerous problems due to shortage of dental surgery tables and apparatus at the dental units of DHQ Hospital Narowal, THQ Hospital Shakargarh and five Rural Health Centers (RHCs) in the district.

Reportedly, the dental units at DHQ Hospital, THQ Hospital Shakargarh and all the five RHCs at Qila Ahmedabad, Baddomalhi, Zafarwal, Sankhatra and Shahgarib have become non-functional virtually and unable to provide dental surgery facility to patients.

The dental surgery tables and apparatus in these hospitals have badly damaged and were out since last many years.

The doctors are unable to perform surgery and only giving prescriptions to patients. The patients have to go to private dental clinics and hospitals for dental surgery and have to suffer heavy financial burdens. However, new complex for DHQ Hospital have recently been completed with a cost of more than Rs316 million but unfortunately the govt has not provided any facilities for dental surgery.

Moreover, dental doctors are also not available in RHCs Zafarwal, Qila Ahmedabad and Shahgarb. Despite repeated requests from the social circles of the area, the District Health Department did not bother to take any action to provide necessary equipment and instruments for dental surgery.

Meanwhile, EDO Health Dr Khalil Akhter Ch said that he had conveyed the problem to the health department high-ups and a positive response was awaited.

The citizens of the area appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister to take notice of the situation and order the authorities concerned to provide dental surgery facilities in the hospitals and health centers of the district on war footings.
