LAHORE – MIAN DAWOOD - Additional IGP (Special Branch) Nasir Khan Durani has gone on leave for four days after the Supreme Court took suo moto over the Joseph Colony arson, asking the Punjab government to take action against negligent officers. The Special Branch issued on March 8 warnings to the city police to take steps in response to an FIR registered against Sawan Mashi over alleged blasphemy. A senior official confirmed the acceptance of four-day leave of Nasir Khan Durani. The official said on anonymity senior police officers are “trying to sweep the arson issue under the carpet until the proposed dissolution of the provincial assembly fearing stern action by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif over negligence”. Nasir Durani was unavailable for comments.
