Islamabad - Prompt promotion took place in Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in the recent four months as around 156 employees of senior and junior cadres were upgraded to their next grades.

This was a big step forward to improve the living-condition of the employees, this was stated by the office-bearers of the Employees Welfare Association (EWA) Mulzim Hussain Qureshi and Muhammad Ajmad Hashmi, President and General Secretary respectively, while a addressing a reception held here on Wednesday.

The reception was arranged to welcome the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui and give fare-well to ex-Vc Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti. It was unprecedented that 48 naib Qasid (Peons) were promoted as clerks at the same time. While a committee has been set up to consider the promotion cases of daily wages, ex-cadres and contract employees. They thanked the vice chancellor for his sympatric and positive attitude towards employees’ welfare. The employees’ representative assured him that they would do their best to improve the good image of the University and serve the interest of the students.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui assured that the existing health facilities for the employees will be further improved, besides taking necessary steps for providing better residential facilities.  Efforts will be made for acquiring a piece of land for the employees in Islamabad, while three new blocks will be constructed in residential colony of the employees in the University’s main campus, he added.

Employees’ welfare will always be his top priority, he said, hoping that they would also take care of their duties and responsibilities in the same spirit. He sought the support of the employees in reconstructing the image of the University, providing quality education to the people at their door-step.
