ISLAMABAD - Karachi Professionals (White) outplayed Rawalpindi Greens by eight wickets to claim 10th National Senior Cricketers Championship title at Diamond cricket ground on Sunday. Aamir Hanif (114) and Mansoor Akhtar (51) scored 166 runs for third wicket and put on sword all the star bowlers of Rawalpindi Greens. Hanif's innings of 114 off just 74 balls was studded with 17 fours as his colleague Mansoor Akhtar hit polished 51 off 51 with four fours. Chief guest, chairman PCB Dr Nasim Ashraf distributed cash prizes of Rs. 1,50,000 to the winners and Rs. 75,000 to the runners up and several individual prizes with cash awards. After being asked to bat by the rivals, Rawalpindi Greens piled up 243 for 8 in 35 overs, as Mansoob Mirza hit up his third consecutive ton (106). Mansoob scored his ton in 96 balls and hit up fours and two sixes. Opener Maqsood Aslam scored 41 off 24 balls, Ashiq Hussain 35 off 32 balls and Raza Butt made 27 runs. Off-breaker Ashraf Pakhaly claimed 3 for 17, Nadeem Musa got 2 for 41. In their turn, Karachi Professionals White's one-down batting sensation Aamir Hanif hit unbeaten 114 and he was well assisted by former Test player Mansoor Akhtar, who made 51 runs. Opener Jaffar Qureshi, a hard-hitting batsman, scored 54 off 46 balls with three fours and four sixes. Dr. Ashraf scored nine runs towards the end of the Pindi innings. Masood Aslam and Lt. Gen Absar Hussain shared one wicket each. Chief guest Chairman PCB Dr. Nasim Ashraf announced that the PCB would be ready to give full support to veterans cricket and provide necessary financing for implementing PVCA annual development plan. He lauded efforts of the PVCA Chairman Fawad Ijaz Khan, CEO PVCA Ashiq Qureshi and other officials for organising such country-wide events for the senior cricketers so that they remain involved in healthy activities. Dr Ashraf vowed to support the veterans cricket. Chairman PVCA Fawad Ijaz Khan said the tournament helped these cricketers continue playing and enjoying cricket. He said the programme would be further expanded. He announced that over-50 veterans cricket tournament involving two teams each from Karachi and Lahore and one each from Rawlpindi-Islamabad and Peshawar will be organised in July-August this year. PCB Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf gave away wining trophy and Rs. 1,50,000 cash award to captain Karachi Professionals (White) Haji Ashraf, besides giving runners-up trophy and Rs. 75,000 to Lt. Gen Absar Hussain, captain of Rawalpindi Greens. Aamir Hanif was adjudged man of the final. Umer Wasim was declared best batsman, General Najmi was adjudged best bowler, Ashraf Ali (best wicketkeeper), and they were award Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 7,500 cash prizes respectively. Qamr Ibrahim was declared best batsman of the South Region. Islamabd Cricket Association and PVCA and Malik Sports Sialkot honoured the Chairman PCB with souvenir. Brig Salauddin, Col Naushad Ali, Syed Abrar Rizvi, Ashiq Qureshi, Fawad Ijaz Khan and others were also given souvenirs.
