Arguments sought in Gullu Butt case

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday directed the Punjab government to come up with more arguments on an appeal seeking enhancement of sentence awarded earlier to Shahid Aziz alias Gullu Butt by an anti-terrorism court for damaging vehicles and cars parked outside Idara Minhajul Quran in Model Town.

The division bench heard the case and adjourned hearing for indefinite period. The counsel of the government said that Gullu Butt created terror by attacking the people and damaging the vehicles. He said that the trail court had sentenced him to five years imprisonment, which was not enough for this heinous crime. He requested to enhance the sentence.

On October 30, 2014, an ATC awarded imprisonment of five years under section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act 1997, three months under section 186 of PPC (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), two years under section 353 of PPC (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), two years under section 427 of PPC (mischief causing damage and smashing vehicles) and two years under section 506 of PPC (punishment for criminal intimidation).

The court had ordered that all the sentences should run concurrently. The court also imposed a collective fine of Rs140100 on the convict.
