Rawalpindi-Two markets in Rawalpindi were sealed on Tuesday by police besides arresting four traders for not following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government to curb Covid-19 infections and lockdown.
The moves came a day after the district government expressed its frustration over thousands of persons thronging shopping centres in the city and flouting social distancing and other guidelines to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
According to details, the authorities along with officials of Police Station (PS) New Town, led by SHO Inspector Mirza Javed Iqbal, sealed Commercial Market and held four owners of famous shopping malls.
Police nabbed Sheikh Sajjad, his son Faizan (owners of Bin Chiragh Shopping Mall) and Khayam and Manager Amir Shezad of Al Jannat Mall and put them behind the lockup for violating lockdown and opening shops.
Similarly, authorities and police also sealed Moti Bazaar in Raja Bazaar as shopkeepers were involved in running their businesses despite lockdown by the government.
Cases have been registered against the violators.
On the other hand, traders and shopkeepers at Adiala Road and Chaklala Scheme III are involved in violating SOPs of coronavirus by not closing their shops during lockdown.
Tens of hundreds of customers throng the markets that too without wearing masks.
