ISLAMABAD - Besides top seed Farhan Mehboob, Aamir Atlas Kan, Yassir Butt, Campbell Grayson, Safeerullah Khan, Waqar Mehboob, Mansoor Zaman and Kashif Shuja moved to the quarter-finals of the Pakistan Open Squash Championship by beating their respective opponents here at Mushaf Squash Complex on Tuesday. Federal Minister for Sports Pir Syed Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani was chief guest at opening ceremony and watched the match between Aamir Atlas Khan and Nasir Iqbal. Senior vice President Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Air vice Marshall Asim Suleman and other officials of PSF and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) were present at this occasion. World number 34, second seed, Aamir Atlas Khan thrashed Nasir Iqbal in straight games 3-0 to reach the top-eight stage of the international competition, which is having prize money of $30, 000. Nasir Iqbal, who had got a wild card entry in the main draw of 16 players, started the match with confidence against a high ranked and experienced player by gaining the lead 4-2. Aamir Atlas reset himself in the court and played some powerful strokes and conceded only single point till the end of the game at 11-5.  Aamir also maintained his pace in the second game by claiming a massive lead of six points at 10-4. Nasir did well to make score 10-7 by getting three back-to-back points that ended at 11-7. The third game also finished in the similar fashion at 11-7, as Nasir was down at 3-9 and finally made the game score 11-7. The final score-line was 11-5, 11-7 and 11-7 and match wasted 22 minutes. Four overseas, as many as four local squash girls jumped into the quarterfinal of the Women's event at the Mushaf Squash Complex here on Tuesday. The quarterfinals of the both events will be played on Wednesday (today) at same venue.
