LAHORE - PIA authorities have feared that due to consecutive delay in dispatching passports by Religious Ministry to the airline office, PIA might have to operate extra flights to transport the affected intending Hajis to Saudi Arabia causing more loss to the airline, revealed an officer of the national flag carrier to The Nation on Tuesday. 'Delay is being happened in the cases of pilgrims referred by the Private Travel and Tour Operators who started the travel process of their clients late as they were in court proceedings for their Haj quota and decision of their petition was announced near the commencement of Haj operation by the court', said a PIA officer seeking anonymity. He said that 99 per cent pilgrims travelling for Haj through govt scheme have been transported to KSA. The sources in PIA said that there were two reasons behind the delay of the arrival of passport one modification in the barcode by the Saudi govt and second one was the litigation process started by the tour operators seeking increase in their Haj quota. They said that this year Haj process started two weeks late as compared to the last year. The sources in the Haji camp said that there was no fault on the part of PIA in this regard ,however, the airline would have to operate extra flights to transport the pilgrims as so far 160 to 170 Hajis have missed their flights. A PIA official said that this year there was not any extra load on the scheduled Saudi flights and Tour Operators have got their advertisements published in the newspapers seeking attention of the pilgrims even after the commencement of the Haj operation.
