ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Sports Pir Aftab Hussain Jillani disclosed here Tuesday that the ministry of sports had demanded a comprehensive report from Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) regarding the cancellations of the Indian hockey team visit at the eleventh hours. While talking to reporters after inaugurating Pakistan Open Squash Championship , he said that the report would be presented to the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the PHF. Archrival Indian junior hockey team was due to visit Pakistan on November 10 via Wagha Boarder to play a five-match rubber with the hosts Pakistan in the different cities. "The decision of the Indian officials was against the spirit of sports. We had made all arrangements to stage the series," he said. He said that ministry would hold the meeting with the national sports federation to take stock of their problems. "We will take deep measures for the promotion of sports in the country and to help out national sports federations to achieve the targets. We will also establish sports infrastructure across the country to provide maximum opportunities to budding players to excel at national level, "he further said. "Hockey is our national game and that will be on top in our priorities lists. However, all sports federations will be provided financial support for enhancing their standard to compete at international level," he concluded.
