ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman and President Asif Ali Zardari once again had a telephonic contact with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and both the leaders will probably be meeting in the next couple of weeks, sources close to both the parties confirmed to The Nation. The sources informed that contact was made between the two leaders a couple of days back, and President Asif Ali Zardari once again assured Mian Nawaz Sharif that he was sincere in doing away with the distortions in the constitution and ready to dole out presidential powers to the Parliament. The sources said that PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed his desire to see Mian Nawaz Sharif at the earliest possible time, the leaders would most likely be meeting at Raiwind this time, following the meeting between Prime Minister Gilani and Mian Nawaz Sharif due today. Sources in the PPP disclosed that the meeting between PM Gilani and Mian Nawaz Sharif on Thursday would set the agenda of the Nawaz-Zardari meeting. The sources added that PPP had disclosed that though the Thursday meeting between Premier Gilani and Mian Nawaz Sharif would be on the Balochistan package, a host of other issues ranging from constitutional amendments to the fate of Local Bodies system once the subject would go into the hands of provinces on Dec. 31 were likely to be discussed in the meeting. Sources in both PPP and PML(N) informed that besides a delegation level meeting, Mian Nawaz Sharif and Premier Gilani would hold a one-on-one meeting as well. During the meeting, Premier Gilani is likely to discuss the delay in the constitutional reforms as the leaders from the smaller provinces were not ready to assent the constitutional amendment but wanted a comprehensive reforms package that also addressed the concerns of the smaller provinces. The sources added that President Zardari has mandated Premier Gilani to give a number of assurances to the PML(N) Quaid on a host of issues.
