KARACHI (PPI) - Sindh High Court Wednesday issued notice to Advocate General Sindh, Sindh Chief Secretary & Local Government Secretary on petition challenging out of turn promotion of 14 officers of grade 17 in Local Government Department. Petition was filed by Akhtar Khan Khattak, ATA North Karachi Town, Imtiaz Ahmed Shah, Deputy Town Officer North Nazimabad, Nazish Raza, DTO North Karachi & Farid Ahmed Magsi, Town Officer (Infrastructure) Shah Faisal Town Karachi. They cited Sindh Chief Secretary, Local Government Secretary had promoted 14 officers and appointed as Town Officers & Deputy Town Officers in Town Municipal Administration Bin Qasim, Gadap, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Baldia, Shah Faisal, North Karachi, North Nazimabad & Tharkarpar. Their counsel submitted petitioners serving in engineering branch of local government department in grade-17 were seniority than respondent officials according to fresh seniority list. Departmental Promotion Committee recommended their name to Sindh Chief Secretary for promotion in next grade, but he turned down. A seniority list issued on October 6, 2009 showed junior officials senior than petitioners. Subsequently a notification was issued on October 31 for their promotion as Town Officer & Deputy Town Officer. Counsel prayed to set aside notification and seniority list issued illegally, without legal authority. SHC notice DS Railway, Electrical Engineer on contempt plea A division bench of Sindh High Court, comprising Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany & Justice Sajjad Ali Shah Wednesday issued notice to Pakistan Railways Karachi Divisional Superintendent & Divisional Electrical Engineer for November 13, 2009 on contempt plea in PR employees salaries deduction case. Petitioner Murad Khan along with 44 PR employees challenged illegal deductions through Advocate Patras Piyarat, submitting some corrupt officials withdrew amount showing as over time payment of petitioners in June 1996 to October 1998. Although SHC in September 2005 allowed employees petition, official respondents were still making heavy illegal deductions from salary of employees, who were due to retire in few months. Counsel prayed to initiate contempt proceedings against PR Divisional Superintendent & Divisional Electrical Engineer for deliberately violating court order.
