ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan government has strongly condemned the cross-border shelling by the Afghan National Army which led to the death of four Pakistani civilians including two children, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.

Quoting military sources, the channel reported that the Afghan National Army fired from KK Top on villagers who were returning home after collecting firewood in Nernarai area near the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday evening.

A civilian car was hit by the mortar attack which left two children and other occupants of the vehicle dead.

According to military sources, Pakistan has protested against this unprovoked shelling in the strongest of words.

There have been frequent incidents of cross-border violations by the Afghan forces in 2012.

However, such attacks continue despite protests by Pakistan government.

Many Pakistani civilians and security personnel have been killed in these cross-border attacks by the Afghan forces.
