Illegal cutting of trees at green belts on the rise

ISLAMABAD  – Plants and trees on green belts of roads of the federal capital are being stolen, while the CDA has failed to take any effective measure in this regard.
According to sources, some elements root out small plants and cut branches of the trees in night time daily and take them to Saidpur animal market to sell on pickups. The CDA officials are reluctant to take action against the persons for reasons best known to them.
The sources revealed that the plants, planted with the cost of millions of rupees in many years, are sold in a few thousand rupees. Therefore, the thieves were not only ruining the beauty of the federal capital but also causing millions of rupees loss to the authority.
The officials on night-duties disappear from their duties with the sunset and the thieves find no hurdle in cutting the trees and plants. When contacted, some CDA officials said that they did not have enough vehicles and weapons to conduct proper patrolling at nights and the thieves were taking advantage of the situation.
