KARACHI – IG Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has issued special directives to zonal DIGs and Divisional SSPs to take counter-terrorism measures preventing further killings in the city. In a statement issued on Sunday, Leghari said that the report be forwarded ensuring departmental action against the relevant SHOs and DSPs of the areas where the pillion riding ban could not be implemented. In addition, directions to constitute a special team in the chairmanship of DIG East to probe the killing of 6 persons who had been killed as a result of firing in Gulshan-e-Iqbal were also issued by IG Sindh. The team included SSP Niaz Khoso, SSP Farooq Awan and respective DSPs and SHOs, he added. The Sindh IG also directed Additional IG Karachi to accelerate targeted operation and enable effective coordination with the intelligence agencies to get better results. He further said that special committees should be made to combine the efforts of religious leaders of all sects and members of civil society, in accordance with the principle of community policing in order to improve law and order situation in the city. He warned the police officers that negligence of any kind on their part would not be tolerated.Meanwhile, Karachi Police took into custody nine suspicious persons during a search operation in New Karachi. Sources in Police said that the search operation was launched in Sector 5-B, New Karachi, after cordoning off the entire area. The arrested persons were shifted to unknown destination for investigation. Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has also taken strong notice of the wave of violence and terrorism activities here and asked Police and Rangers to take steps for ensuring safety of life and property of citizens. He also communicated to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah in this regard. He asked the Sindh Inspector General Police and Director General Rangers to improve law and order situation of the mega city.
