LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhud Ahmad Khan visited various Imam bargahs of Lahore and directed to make foolproof security arrangements.

He reviewed security and other arrangements made at Imam Bargah Bhalla Stop, Imam Bargah Sodiwal, Imam Bargah 250-F Gulshan-e-Ravi and Captain Jamal Road Sanda and directed to further improve security arrangements.

CCPO visits procession route

Capital City Police Officer Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed on Monday visited route of the main procession of Zuljina to review the security arrangements ahead of Ashura.

The CCPO also visited the command and control center established at the office of DIG (Operations) to monitor security arrangements during the holy month of Muharram.

DIG (Operations) Rana Abdul Jabbar, chief traffic officer, SP City police division, Shia leaders and member of peace committee were also present on this occasion.

DIG Operations and SP (Security) Ali Salman Khan gave detail briefing to CCPO regarding the working of command and control centre.

During his visit to the route of Zuljina procession, the CCPO directed the DIG (Operations) to ensure four-layer security not only at the main procession of Zuljina but also around all the processions and Majalis to be held in the sensitive areas.

The CCPO also directed the police to establish four new check-points on different places and depute another 50 policemen in plainclothes at the route of the main procession to foil the nefarious designs of terrorist and ant-state elements.

He also directed the police officers to ensure search and sweep operation at the route of Zuljina before starting the procession. He further said that the route should be cleared by using sniffer dogs. The police are also directed to keep a close contact with the special branch and civil administration for this purpose. The police are also asked for the installation of close circuit cameras and removal of encroachments from the main route. Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmed also directed the police to ensure that no irrelative person would stay in any house situated at the route of main procession and surety certificates must be taken from the owners of the buildings located at the route of the main procession.

The city police chief also appealed to the Shia leaders to provide the names of volunteers to SP City by Tuesday so that security duty-cards could be issued to them well in time and they could help police officials in the physical search of Azadars and other participants at different checking points.
