At least 44 activists of banned religious organisations were arrested during crackdowns in different areas of the cities.

According to district police officer (DPO) Mandi Bahauddin Ameer Taimoor, as part of security measure during Ashura, the police conducted crackdown on banned organisations in different areas of the district.

He said that during operation the police arrested 14 members of various outlawed organisations.

Meanwhile during crackdown in different areas of Vehari district, 30 activists of banned outfits were nabbed. The police registered separate cases against the detainees and started investigation.

Police baton charge: The police baton charged the protesting family members of a minor who was crushed to death by a speeding bus here on Monday.

According to rescue sources, a recklessly driven passenger bus crushed a minor child near main bus terminal on Sargodha Road. Following the incident, the members of bereaved family blocked the road by placing the dead body in protest against the incident. They chanted slogans against police and administration besides demanding arrest of the driver responsible for the incident. They also ransacked and pelted stones on vehicles and shops.

Meanwhile, the police to disperse the protestors, baton charged them, leaving several of them injured.
