LAHORE - Punjab University Academic Staff Association has said that university teachers strongly condemn the recent statement of Jamaat-i-Islami chief Munawar Hasan about the martyrdom of country’s soldiers who died fighting the terrorists.

In a press statement issued on Monday, the association office-bearers said that the JI chief’s statement was a blatant betrayal to the country, the constitution and the blood of the martyrs.

They said that in face of attacks on national security and natural calamities, Pak Army always rendered unprecedented sacrifices for protecting life and property of the people. They said the army launched operations in Swat Valley, South Waziristan and other troubled areas against anti-state elements on the directives of elected government and its sacrifices would not go in vain.

They said that JI leaders denied arrest of an Al-Qaeda terrorist from the room of a Nazim of Islami Jamiat Talaba, the student wing of the religio-political party, but they termed killing of terrorists as martyrdom which was an ample proof of JI’s hypocrisy. The association said that university teachers also condemned drone attacks and understood that the war had been imposed on Pakistan from outside.
