LAHORE  - Two people were killed in road accidents in the provincial capital on Tuesday.

A 26-year-old man was crushed to death by a rashly-driven vehicle near Dharampura underpass in the Garhi Shahu police limits.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the man, unidentified so far, was walking alongside the road when a Pajero violated the one-way traffic and hit him. The man died on the spot while the driver along with the vehicle fled from the scene. Police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy.

In another accident, a man was killed when his car rammed into a tree on The Mall in the vicinity of Racer Course police.

The man identified as Muhammad Ubaid was driving his car in excessive speed when it smashed into a roadside tree, resulting in his on-the-spot death. The police are investigating.

SUSPENDED: The station house officer (SHO) Sabzazar police station has been suspended from service on the orders of Lahore CCPO Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad, a police spokesman said on Monday.

While taking serious notice of the death of a minor girl who died on Sunday when the string of a stray kite slit open her throat, the city police chief also ordered DIG (operations) to initiate departmental inquiry against the suspended police officer.

 Meanwhile, Inspector Ghulam Dastgir has been appointed as SHO Sabzazar police station after Inspector Sharif Sindhu was suspended from service.
