MITHI- Famine in Thar claimed one more childs life in Umer Kot Civil Hospital today, taking the death toll to 56 in just 44 days, and the drought stricken residents of Chachru and Dhali continue to migrate to other areas.

Two-year old Arbab Rajhar died in Civil Hospital Umer Kot as the Sindh government has not been able to make adequate treatment arrangements. All relief initiatives are restricted to Mithi, and far flung areas are lacking ample assistance and people continue to die of starvation.

Scores of children have been admitted in hospitals with many in a precarious condition.Relief activities could be seen in some places as media reported deaths in Mithi Civil Hospital, however with no land route to 675 villages in the area neither the media nor the relief teams can reach out to the affected.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has arrived in Mithi with his ministers to discuss the drought crisis in Sindh’s desert district of Tharparkar.Security has been stepped up in Mithithe main town of Tharparkar district, ahead of the provincial cabinet’s meeting.

 

The government of Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah is facing scathing criticism from the opposition parties for alleged lethargy in tackling the drought situation in Tharparkar.
