LAHORE - A three-day international conference on “Local Representation of Power in South Asia” is going to be held at the Government College University from today (Wednesday) under the auspices of the university’s Political Science Department and Higher Education Commission.

About 11 foreign experts from seven countries including China, Germany and Spain are participating in the conference on the invitation of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman.

Talking about the objectives of the conference, GCU Political Science Department Chairperson Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said the conferences would explore various forms of local representation of power in South Asia, their degree of success in providing public services and safety, their role in arbitration and adjudication, and issues like electoral process, administrative capacity, financial autonomy, and accountability of local governments. Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said that the university was holding about 14 international conferences in connection with its 150 years celebrations and proceedings of these conferences would be published as the best international standards.

He said that a policy dialogue on the local representation of power would conclude the conference. He said that a special session on women empowerment through local representation of power was also part of the three day conference.

UVAS book fair: The Library of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore UVAS arranged a two-day annual book fair 2014 in the City Campus Lahore.  VC Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated the book fair which will continue till on Wednesday.  A number of stalls were set up at the fair.  Faculty member and students from various departments visited and purchased books of their interest. The VC appreciated the efforts of organiser Librarian Muhammad Aslam, Dr Asim Aslam, Ms Abeeda Zia and all the Library officials, faculty members and students to make it successful book fair.
