ISLAMABAD - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Tuesday strongly criticised the federal government for ignoring agriculture sector by not purchasing rice and cotton at suitable rates.

“The incumbent government is ignoring agriculture sector which is inflicting a huge loss on farmers,” said Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah.

The government’s negligence is not only inflicting a huge loss on farmers but also to agriculture sector. “Farmers are compelled to sale their produces on cheap price,” he said, in a statement issued from opposition leader’s office.

He further said that government should purchase it from trading corporation which will help farmers to sell their produces at suitable rates.

“We in our era did not inflict a loss on farmers,” he said while criticising one billion rupees subsidy being given to Metro bus in one city. “Agriculture is backbone of country and it should not be ignored,” he added.

Meanwhile, PPP has also submitted a call attention notice in the National Assembly Secretariat about the government’s proposal to sell the National Convention Centre to private sector.

The PPP, in a notice, has termed convention centre a prized institution responsible for holding national and international conferences causing great concern among the public. Opposition party asked the government to take the House into confidence on this matter.
