Eight years have elapsed since 18 October 2007, when over 180 Pakistanis were killed and over 600 injured in a terrorist attack on Late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s procession when she had arrived in Karachi after an 8 year exile near Karzas crossing on Main Shahrahe Faisal. This attack occurred when Musharraf was in power and both mayor of Karachi and Sindh Home Minister were from MQM. Within hours of this attack the crime scene was washed thoroughly, leaving no credible evidence. Benazir Bhutto escaped this attack, but within weeks fell victim to another terrorist attack, where crime scene was again washed within hours.

PPP held power for five years in Islamabad and in Sindh from 2008 to 2013, and thereafter has retained control of provincial government, yet other than annual ritual of commemorating her death anniversary, no credible effort was made to nab murderers and those responsible for her assassination. PPP gained power in Islamabad on a sympathy vote and within five years, its lack of governance, abuse of power and massive corruption has reduced it to a non-entity in national politics. It is surprising that many within PPP and MQM do not hesitate to indulge in petty politics by blaming Punjab for her assassination in Rawalpindi, conveniently forgetting attack on 18 October in Karachi and their criminal negligence as coalition partners in investigating this crime and delivering justice.
