Rawalpindi - The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) carried out raids against drug mafia in various parts of the country and recovered huge quantity of narcotics.

Three smugglers were apprehended during raids, informed ANF spokesman Samiullah Khan yesterday. The drugs seized by ANF teams included 1.05-ton amphetamine, 2.87-ton opium, 25.7-kg heroin and 4-kg hashish, he added. The value of recovered drug is Rs 6.6 billion in international market, he said.

Sharing further details, Samiullah said that ANF at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport detained a passenger identified as Suleman Khan, resident of Swat, who intended to board for Italy via Doha by Qatar Airline flight number QR-633 and recovered 750 grams heroin from him. Heroin was tactfully concealed in his shoes.

In another operation, ANF Rawalpindi airport team apprehended an Abu Dhabi-bound passenger indentified as Ghulam Abbas, resident of Sargodha, at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport and recovered 1-kg ice concealed in his luggage. The accused intended to take off by Emirates Airline flight number EK-2553 scheduled for Abu Dhabi, he said.

In Quetta, ANF while carrying out a successful intelligence led operation seized 2878-kg opium and 1056-kg amphetamine from Killi Surkhab, tehsil Khanozai, district Pishin. The drugs were concealed at a secret site situated in the cuttings of mountainous terrains far away from the populated area.

Cases have been registered against the detainees and further investigation is under way, the spokesman said.
