HAFIZABAD

Hafizabad is perhaps the only Punjab district where no person from its five wards has filed nomination papers for the slots of general councilor.

According to official statistics available, the villagers of ward l union council 34, ward 2 of UC 38, ward 3 and 4 of UC 23 and ward 4 of UC 36 had shown no interest in the elections and refrained from submitting nomination papers to contest the election.

Only one female namely Samaira Ashraf Qazi has filed nomination paper to contest for the slot. Moreover, 47 candidates of general councillor, two in Hafizabad, one in Pindi Bhattian and seven in Jalalpur Bhattian have been elected unopposed.

Political activities in the urban and rural areas are being accelerated by the contestants for the local bodies elections being held in the second phase in Hafizabad district on November l9.

The candidates have set up their offices where they serve Baryani and green tea to the supporters in violation of the code of conduct. They have displayed banners and flexes and are distributing hand bills to muster the support of the electorates.
