NA committee members threaten to quit

ISLAMABAD The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports will meet on Tuesday (today) here at Parliament House and Iqbal Mohammad Ali will preside over the meeting.
The House will discuss the spot-fixing scandal, as the committee has summoned top officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) including chairman Ijaz Butt.
Meanwhile, a PCB source told this scribe that Ijaz Butt would not attend the Standing Committee meeting owing to his other international commitment. He will attend the ICC Executive Board meeting, which will be held on October 12 and 13. The members of the Standing Committee have announced to resign from the committee if Ijaz Butt did not quit. This will be very important meeting for the Parliamentarians.
The ICC meeting will discuss the spot-fixing allegations during the recent Pakistan tour of England.
The ICC Board will be updated on the spot-fixing allegations against three Pakistan players during a recent tour to England. Under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, the players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif - were provisionally suspended from all cricket.
In accordance with the provision of the code all three have appealed that provisional suspension and the independent hearing will take place in Doha, Qatar, on October 30 and 31 and will be chaired by the head of the ICC Code of Conduct Commission, Michael Beloff.
