ANF seizes charas, opium from drug traffickers

RAWALPINDI - During a successful action, Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) recovered 530-kg opium and 360-kg charas after an encounter with drug traffickers in Balochistan, informed the force spokesman Agha Sabah-ul-Hassan here on Thursday.According to him, the Anti Narcotics Force had received secret information that some Afghan-based drug traffickers would smuggle a large quantity of narcotics inside Pakistan to take it to Iran. He said that Anti Narcotics Force made a plan to target the traffickers at Turbat. In the night falling between October 9 and 10, 2012, ANF detected a land cruiser bearing registration number CN-6612 coming from Afghanistan side, he said, adding that Anti Narcotics Force staff signaled to stop the vehicle, however the smugglers started indiscriminate firing on the ANF staff.In retaliation, the smugglers while taking advantage of darkness managed to escape leaving behind the loaded vehicle with narcotics. During the course of search, 530-kg opium was recovered from the vehicle. In another operation, Anti Narcotics Force seized 360-kg chars in the area of Dalbandin. The drugs were damped in deserted hut. The value of the recovered narcotics in International Market is in billions of rupees. Cases have been registered against the accused and further investigation was continuing, Agha added. He was of view that during the last three days three major narcotics seizures have been made by Anti Narcotics Force in Balochistan, in these operations huge quantity of Narcotics, Arms and ammunition have been recovered, which speaks devotion of the force towards making Pakistan drug free nation.
