LAHORE – Muftis and Islamic scholars affiliated with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in an edict (Fatwa) on Thursday termed the attack on Malala Yousafzai un-Islamic and said that the attackers had trampled the Islamic Hudood (tenets).
The Fatwa, which was issued after a meeting of the muftis belonging to the SIC, holds that the assailants’ self-adopted interpretation of Islam was nothing but ignorance and digression from the actual teachings of the religion. “Islam not only made it obligatory on every man and woman to seek education but also strictly forbids taking the life of any innocent person,” it adds.
The Muftis who issued the edict include Allama Sharif Rizvi, Allama Abu Daud Sadiq Rizvi, Allama Hanif Qureshi, Mufti Imran Hanfi, Mufti Haseeb Qadri, Mufti Saeed Rizvi, Mufti Karim Khan, Allama Bagh Ali Rizvi, Allama Rafiq Shah Jamali and others.
They held in their Fatwa that Islam described the killing of one innocent person as the murder of entire humanity, besides it forbade executing even that woman who had reneged on the religion.
The Fatwa stated that Jihad was a sacred obligation but its real spirits needed to be clearly understood since attacking innocent women and children was not Jihad. It warned that those taking responsibility of every act of terrorism were actually foreign agents who had been assigned the task to defame Islam. The Fatwa also appealed to the Ulema and the nation to get united to counter the conspiracies against Islam and Pakistan.
