ISLAMABAD - Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will chair an important meeting of party’s core group soon after Youm-e-Ashur to finalise his anti-government protest strategy on October 30.
While PTI has so far failed to convince Dr Tahirul Qadri-led Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to join its protest on October 30 to force Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to present himself for accountability over Panama Leaks, the party wants to lockdown the capital on that day.
An officer-bearer of the PTI’s Central Secretariat said that party chairman would chair an important meeting of the senior party leadership to finalise the protest strategy to lock down the capital. Responding to a question what Imran Khan will do if he failed to gather massive crowd or lockdown the capital, the officer-bearer said that PTI could give another protest call. “We will continue with our struggle against corruption,” he claimed. The date of the core group meeting will be finalised today, he said
PTI chairman last week while talking to reporters after chairing the meeting of party leadership had reiterated his stance that his party would not let the government function from October 30 until their one of the two demands were met - either Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should resign or present himself for accountability over Panama leaks. However, he had said that his party was planning for the protest strategy and its details would not be made public after some time.
According to PTI sources, the party is also considering an option of the protest sit-in in Islamabad. However, party had not taken the decision in this regard.
Meanwhile, PTI chief will start tours of various parts of central Punjab, northern Punjab and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after Ashura to convince his followers to join the protest in Islamabad and gather massive support for the show announced on October 30. Imran Khan has already appealed to the masses to join his protest and help him choke the corrupt government.
