ISLAMABAD - Secretary of Islamabad Transport Authority Asia Gul on Friday imposed fine amounting to Rs 19,800 on 25 public service vehicles and challaned 12 vehicles for route violations including arrest of a driver for overcharging. The ITA Secretary said that ongoing traffic checking would continue for the next 10 days as Eid is approaching and peoples would be leaving for their hometowns. It is common practice that transporters exploit and overcharge commuters going to celebrate Eid at their hometowns. She said that elaborate arrangements had been made to check the mal-practices of transporters on Eid days and she had deployed traffic police officials on the main intersections who would impose heavy fines on the violators who indulge in overcharging. Besides this, she would conduct checking at the bus stops and outgoing routes.
