ISLAMABAD - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam has constituted Special Response Units (SRUs) to ensure security arrangements in Capital more effectively. This squad would comprise 25 motorcycles and 13 vehicles while its staff would be equipped with sophisticated weapons. The decision to establish the units was taken in a meeting held here on Friday to review the security arrangements in Islamabad. SSP (Operations) Tahir Alam Khan, SSP (Traffic) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, SSP (Headquarters) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi, SP (Industrial Zone) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani, SP Security Ahsan Abbass, all SDPOs and SHOs attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the security arrangements in detail and finalised a strategy to make security more effective. It was decided that the units would cordon off the area in case of any incident and would also patrol the area outside the security cordon. The IGP said that security arrangements in Islamabad would be reviewed after 15 days and every possible step would be ensured for foolproof arrangement at all important places. He appealed the citizens to inform police about the suspected persons. Shahid Rao from Rawalpindi reports: Police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan to maintain law and order situation and to ensure foolproof arrangements during the last days of Ramazan in the city. In this connection, a high-level meeting was held under the chair of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Rao Muhammad Iqbal here on Friday in which SSP Yasin Faroq, all the SPs, ASPs, DSPs and SHOs also participated in it. Participants of the meeting were told that the security plan had been devised keeping in view the importance of the days and to foil the nefarious designs of terrorists and anti-social elements. They were further informed that policemen in civvies have been deputed at various places including bazaars, markets, and other places of rush before Eid while the police ladies would also deputed in important markets. The CPO also issued special directives to the motorcycle riders of Tiger Force to continue patrolling near important police in order to avert any mishap. He also directed that special attention should be given to the duty at mosques, Imam Bargahs, Eidgahas and the staff deployed at such places be properly briefed to remain vigilant in order to avert the possibility of any terrorist act. Moreover, places like bazaars, trade centres, bus stops, bus terminals, railway stations, car parkings and other public places of alike nature may also be given priority with particular reference to thwart any attempts of terrorism and sabotage. Besides, the effective patrolling system, the sufficient force equipped with metal detectors and mobile scanners will be deployed on such places. The CPO also directed DSP (Cantt) to establish a complaint cell on Bank Road so that the people could record their complaints at this cell.
