ISLAMABAD - The Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani (COAS), who visited Dir on Friday, said the campaign to uproot extremism and terrorism from the country would continue unabated at all cost. The local commander briefed him about the prevailing security situation in the area. He praised the efforts of security forces to flush out the terrorists and in assisting the return of 97 per cent displaced people. General Kayani met the officers and troops and lauded their high morale and sacrifices that have been rendered during recent operations. He also interacted with the notables of the area. He remained with them for some time and discussed issues regarding the restoration of peace and harmony in the area and rehabilitation of displaced people. The locals assured full support to the security forces. The COAS appreciated their efforts and support to the security forces during the smooth execution of operations. Talking to the local veterans, he said the Pakistan Army had broken the backbone of the extremists during the operation and their network had been dismantled, and added that the Pak Army was intent upon exterminating terrorism and terrorists from the country. Earlier on arrival, Lieutenant General Muhammad Masood Aslam, Corps Commander, received the COAS.
