RAWALPINDI - Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mian Shehbaz Sharif along with other family members Tuesday visited Adiala Jail and met with deposed Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to condole the death of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz.
The others who were accompanying Mian Shehbaz Sharif included Meharun Nisa, daughter of Maryam Nawaz and Raheel Munir, the son-in-law of Maryam Nawaz.
According to details, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mian Shehbaz Sharif and other family members arrived from Lahore at the Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport through a special flight from where they had proceeded towards Adial Jail amid tight security. The jail authorities brought the detained Sharifs to the conference room where the family members held a meeting with Mian Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar. Shehbaz Sharif and others expressed their deep sorrow over the sad demise of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz in London and offered fateh for her departed soul.
Likewise, a small number of local leaders and workers of PML-N gathered outside Adiala Jail to show solidarity with detained Sharifs and to condole death of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
A senior police officer told The Nation that the jail authorities were cooperating with Sharifs fully to have their meeting with visitors. He said Nawaz Sharif, Maryam and Safdar had also telephoned Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz in UK from the jail PCO and expressed their sorrow over death of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
He said DC Islamabad would order release of the detained Sharifs on parole for attending the funeral prayer of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz that would be offered in Jati Umrah, Lahore. He said Sharifs would be transported or airlifted to Lahore under tight police protection.
Following the orders of City Police Officer (CPO) Abbas Ahsan, Rawalpindi police have beefed up security of routes leading to Adiala Jail to avoid any untoward incident.
More than 50 workers of PML-N led by Begum Seema Jeelani also reached outside Adiala Jail and chanted slogans in favour of incarcerated Sharifs. They also expressed their sorrow over the sad demise of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz in London and demanded the government to release the Sharifs on parole.
A source disclosed to The Nation that the matters of applying for parole for release of Sharifs, the arrangements for bringing the dead body of Begum Kulsoom from UK to Pakistan and the time and place for funeral and burial came under discussion during meeting among Shehbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt Safdar in conference room of Adiala Jail.
