LAHORE - Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Dr Javed Akram and CCPO Pervez Rathore on Monday submitted their replies in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on a petition seeking registration of FIR under Anti Terrorism Act against the doctors who detained and tortured journalists in Jinnah Hospital on March 31. The petition was filed by Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, media advisor Save Judiciary Committee (SJC), through his counsel Barrister Farooq Hassan against the doctors torture on journalists. In a 20-page report submitted to the court Dr Javed Akram said the petitioner Imtiaz Rasheed was not a journalist or aggrieved party in the matter so his petition stood nowhere in the eyes of law. Dr Javed did not personally appear before the court but speaking through the report said he did not commit any unlawful act in his personal or administrative capacity during the incident. He said the petitioner had portrayed only the journalists version in his petition. CCPO Pervez Rathore in his report stated that the police officers present at Jinnah Hospital at the day of incident took action in accordance with the law. Rathore said the a complete report about the action of the concerned police including the SP and DSP model Town could be seen in the video footage of the TV channels made on that day. The court of Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry gave copies of the replies (reports) to the petitioners counsel Barrister Farooq Hassan who sought time to study the replies being of several pages. On this, Justice Ejaz Chaudhry adjourned further proceedings till April 20. On the next date petitioners counsel would start his arguments on the reports of the respondents. Petitioner had submitted that Prof Dr Javed Akram, Incharge Jinnah Hospital / Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) and Dr Hamid Butt, President Young Doctors Association Punjab, played havoc in the hospital on March 31 last by attacking journalists. He said the doctors were guilty of several criminal offences including confining dozens of journalists illegally and also indulging in acts that attract the anti terrorism laws. Petitioner prayed that directions be issued to Punjab health secretary, Federal health secretary, Punjab law secretary, and Lahore police chief to take appropriate action against Dr Javed Akram and Dr Hamid Butt.
