Karachi Reds qualifies for finals

KARACHI Nadeem Sheikhs brilliant century helped Karachi Reds to beat Karachi yellows by 62 runs in the final of the Southern Zone Nationals Senior Cricket here the other day at UBL Ground and qualify for the national final which will be played later this month in Islamabad. Karachi Reds will play the winner of Lahore Whites and Rawalpindi Greens on April 18 in the national finals at the Diamond Cricket Ground, Islamabad. Karachi Reds, after winning the toss, scored a huge total of 262 runs for eight wickets in the allotted 30 overs. Nadeem Sheikh scored 112 runs in 85 balls with two sixes and 14 fours. Shaheen Malik scored 48 runs in 27 balls with two sixes and five fours. Shahadat Karim scored 28 and Asim Jah scored 25 runs. Shakir Khan was the most successful bowler for Karachi Yellows by taking three wickets for 62 runs. Left arm spinners Zahid Ahmed and Tanveer Ali took two wickets each for 35 and 46 runs respectively. Batting second, Karachi Yellows team was all out for 200 runs in 27.4 overs. Shujaat Ali scored 45 runs in 35 balls with two sixes and four fours. Fareeduddin scored 31 runs in 18 balls and Saeed Azad scored 24 runs in 26 balls. For Karachi Reds, Habib Ur Rehman took four wickets for 36 runs. Mahmood Hamid and Yahya Toor took two wickets each for 14 and 23 runs respectively. For his brilliant batting, Nadeem Sheikh was declared the man of the match. At the conclusion of the match, prize distribution ceremony was held under the chair of Chairman PVCA Fawad Ijaz Khan while Brig (retd) Salahuddin and Tahir Iqbal of Arif Habib Securities spoke on the occasion. The winning team got the cup and cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the losing team got the cup and cash prize of Rs 25,000. Jaffer Qureshi was declared the man of the tournament (Rs 5,000), Shujaat Ali the best batsman (Rs 3,000), Haji Ashraf the best bowler (Rs 3,000) and Ijaz Ahmed the best wicketkeeper (Rs 3,000).
