LAHORE - A delegation of under training ASPs of 36th Common from National Police Academy called on Inspector General of Police Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar at Central Police Office here on Monday. An elaborate briefing was given to them regarding the measures taken for maintenance of law and order, prevention of terrorism and elimination of heinous crime as well as functioning of important sections of the police department. The IGP said on this occasion that in order to introduce far-reaching changes in the police training and thana culture, a comprehensive strategy was being implemented for improving the police performance. In this connection, the training syllabi for newly recruited and serving personnel of police have been amended in which special attention has been concentrated on the building of character and human behaviour and the lectures of eminent intellectual and religious scholars are arranged during the course of training, he added. The IG also said that special attention was being given towards the provision of information about new techniques of investigation to the serving personnel and newly recruited ASIs in the training courses. The IG further said that the arrangements of holding refresher courses for the training of police personnel of police stations have been made in all police lines schools, in which lectures regarding moral values, human rights and policing affairs are delivered by the serving/retired police officers as well as significant personalities of the society so that the routs of traditional police culture could be eradicated and police department be transformed into service oriented and public friendly organization. The IG also said that an effective mechanism has been evolved to deal with the possible threats of terrorism in the perspective of the present security conditions, which helped a lot in tightening the rope around the saboteurs in the province. Similarly, training courses for provision of training of anti terrorist and field craft to the personnel of Punjab Constabulary were also underway; while a quick response force comprising the officers / officials of police have been constituted with the cooperation of Pakistan Army for enhancing the professional capacity of the police. The IG urged the ASPs to deal with the public nicely and be always easily available to them by ensuring of quick redressal of their genuine complaints so that the gap between police and public could be bridged which is highly essential for the successful policing. He expressed the hope that the under training ASPs would enhance the image of police by dint of their professional wisdom and leadership quality.
