Punjab govt refuses to accept Presidents orders

ISLAMABAD - Punjab Government has disregarded the Presidential directives wherein President Asif Ali Zardari had sought release of his blue-eyed former additional director general FIA Ahmed Riaz Sheikh as part of special remission granted to the convicts in various criminal cases last week. Well-placed PML-N sources informed TheNation on Monday that the provincial government had refused to comply with the Presidential directives, as it was against the sprit of the judgments of the judiciary and 18th Constitutional Amendment that provided autonomy to the province. According the informed sources, the Punjab Government has been under tremendous pressure from the Presidency to comply with the orders, adding the provincial government has referred the matter back to the Federation with objections. The sources further said the provincial government had enlisted 736 convicts to be released in the wake of the President's special remission orders.
