ISLAMABAD (APP) - Capital police have foiled an attempt to smuggle cache of weapons and ammunition from Peshawar to Haripur via Islamabad and arrested two persons who were trying it to smuggle it through a vehicle, a police spokesman said. On a tip off, Golra police constituted a special team for effective checking in its area following the directions of SP and DSP of the area. This team comprising of Inspectors Ghulam Abbass, Mumtaz Habib, head constable Akbar and other police officials stopped a Suzuki van (CR-2437) near railway gate on Johad Road. Police officials asked car occupants for checking of vehicle and recovered four kalashnikovs and 3500 rounds from it. The two car occupants were identified as Amjad Islam s/o Wakeel Khan resident of Kohat and Shabbir resident of Peshawar. Case has been registered against them and further investigation is under way. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan has appreciated performance of Golra police team and announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for them.
