At least 13 persons were killed and dozen others injured in three road accidents occurred in different areas here on Sunday.

According to details, five persons were killed while four others including three dancing girls of Lahore were seriously injured in a dreadful head-on collision between a van and truck following firing by dacoits on Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road near Dera Shah Jamal, some 15-km from here early Sunday morning.

According to rescue sources, Sheraz Ahmad and Sikandar, residents of Lahore along with three dancing girls including Tanzeela, Umme Kalsoom and some musicians were on the way back to Lahore in van (LEE-5565) after performing in a wedding ceremony in nearby village. When they reached near Dera Shah Jamal, some armed bandits intercepted the vehicle and resorted to Indiscriminate firing. But the driver accelerated speed as a result of which he lost control of the vehicle collided head-on with a truck (DKF-080) coming from opposite direction. Resultantly, Akram Masih, Muhammad Azhar and two unidentified young men died on the spot while Sheraz succumbed to his injuries in DHQ hospital Hafizabad. Rescue 1122 teams headed by District Emergency Officer Sibgath Ullah rushed to the spot and removed the injured and dead bodies from the van after cutting body of the vehicle, which had been badly smashed.

Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers of Dera Shah Jamal and Kot Ladha staged protest demonstration against the rising incidents of dacoity and the mishap which also taken place due to firing of the dacoits. They blocked Gujranwala Road for more than two hours by burning tyres, demanding arrest of the dacoits.

Meanwhile, the dead body of unidentified 4-year-old boy was recovered from nearby field of Mohallah Farooq-e-Azam, Pindi Bhattian. The police have shifted the dead body to THQ Hospital Pindi Bhattian for autopsy.

According to police source, the kid was throttled to death by unidentified accused after abducting him. Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained despite announcement in different mosques.

In Rajanpur, five persons died and 14 others injured in a collision between two vehicles here Sunday morning.

Police said that the accident took place on Indus Highway near Roujhan Chowk when a passenger bus collided head-on with a speeding goods-laden truck coming from opposite direction.

As a result five passengers died on the spot while 14 others sustained wounds and were shifted to hospital.

According to hospital sources, condition of several injured is serious.

The police impounded both the vehicles and registered a case against the drivers.

In Narowal, two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles on Shakargarh Road.
