LAHORE - Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah on Sunday came to PTI’s defence against strong criticism coming from its detractors about latter’s decision to rejoin the Assemblies.

“The PTI has returned to the Assemblies after fulfilment of its demands as a result of an agreement with the govt”, he remarked while talking to the media at the Lahore Airport.

He said those raising hue and cry over the issue were not well versed with the relevant rules governing the acceptance of resignations of the Parliamentarians. It is good that Speaker did not accept the resignations of PTI law makers, he added.

He further said that if some people had any reservations over non-acceptance of resignations, they should have moved a resolution in the National Assembly to agitate their point.

Khurshid questioned where the former CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry was for the past over eight months. Why is he talking about resignations now?, he asked.

Without naming anybody, he criticised PML-N leaders who grilled the PTI for its decision to rejoining of legislatures. They have caused much embarrassment to their government, he added.

Replying to a question, the PPP leader said his party had no secret understanding with the PML-N to support its government in the Centre. “Our opposition or support to the government is based on principles which are of paramount importance for us”, he observed.

Khurshid said that PPP’s decision to approach the Judicial Commission with proofs of rigging in respect of 2013 elections was line with the democratic principles.

Answering another question, he said that PPP was playing a neutral role in the NA-246 by-elections.

On Parliament’s joint resolution on Yemen crisis, he said it was reflective of the sentiments of the nation.
